On Self esteem

Self Esteem is deeply entwined with our inner confidence and the way we choose to behave in this world.

Unfortunately it is also influenced by many external factors which could be peers , family , relationships , and even state of health at the moment.

People who have a strong foundation of self esteem will tend to see the value of a life well lived.

If your feeling undermined by someone who brings you down at every opportunity, who sabotages your growth by clever manipulation you can rest assured they are not on your side. In fact they are the ones saddled with insecurities and self esteem issues and the sooner you distance yourself from such people , the better you are going to be.

No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow. Alice Walker

A few surefire ways to develop your sense of Self Esteem.

1 : Unlearn the negative patterns of thought.

2 : Create a habit of speaking mindfully

3: Choose to believe in your self worth.

4: Choose to forgive and let go baggage.

5: Keep learning & updating your skills.

Most importantly, celebrating the little things in your life makes you realise your self worth… so be a friend to yourself. It truly matters a great deal!

You owe it to yourself …cos you are worth it.

Truths of life

As Above So Below

As Within So without

As the Universe So the Soul…

Artwork by Savvy Raj

Truths of life.

Life manifests itself the way you see it.

Your words thoughts and attitudes

Are powerful beyond your understanding.

As you intend, you co-create the path

The truth of life is within around and beyond you .

Your choice in free will matters

Your integrity of spirit and soul evolves along the way.

Action creates reaction which needs to turn to response in awareness.

Hurry or worry is simply a state of the mind and emotions which needs understanding to let go.

All is a work in progress

A continuation in the evolution.

Celebrate Life… Live than just exist.

This note above has a true story that happened with me…. I have published it in my earlier article called the Magic of Movements.
This is one of those moments when writing and sharing stories from our lives bring us a deep sense of connection… with our readers and ourselves in gratitude for the learnings. And there is that sense of magic through words.
This is an old story but to me, but sharing it evokes the same poignant feeling of fond memories of the people that are attached to it

Here is the story if you would like to read.

The Magic of Movements

‘Life is a dance’….A painting by Savvy Raj

As a Dance Educator and a Creative MovementTrainer using Ballroom and Latin dances to improve health and well-being through various Dance for Wellness programs, it has been an enriching experience watching the learners revel in the simple joys of movement.

I have witnessed complete shifts in self esteem, confidence and agility among learners of all ages. But to cite a very recent instance …there is a small group of senior learners at one of my workshops who are gradually changing their mental makeup to being extremely enthusiastic about life and learning to dance. I still remember that Sunday morning about four years ago when I was almost through with teaching a Waltz class and I saw this slender, elderly elegant woman walking in and standing quietly, keenly watching the students who were practicing their steps from the sidelines. She was waiting to speak to me ….In that first moment of contact instinctively I knew there was an instant connection.. I gave her a listening ear and noticed she spoke softly and clearly . She said she was heading a group of Senior citizens she would like me to come over and meet the group and also teach them to dance . Her request seemed just right up my alley as I had been intending to conduct some workshops for seniors myself but hadn’t had the opportunity yet . This seemed as if my intentions were slowly finding a way to fulfillment . We fixed up that I would come over and meet them the following Monday at the local church where they all meet up for their weekly meeting . This I came to know later, was the only activity they had together every week .

Soon enough in a week or so I got a call from the lady who initiated it all saying that they need some time for permissions to use the same space of the church for the dance lessons . And that was that … nothing happened . Meanwhile I continued with my Dance workshops , and facilitated training’s of corporate clients . I would remember that meeting once in a while but left it to time to decide the outcome of that meeting.

A few years passed and I was returning back after finishing a children’s workshop in Chennai when I received her call again . Her clear and determined voice was cheerful and hopeful . She said she had two things to say , the seniors have agreed to join in and the church had given them the space to go ahead with the classes . Fantastic …. I knew in my heart it was no coincidence that it happened at all . After all the connects that we established that day were just moving to affirming itself !Well I got Godspeed on my side this time around … things moved on smoothly and we were well into rolling out the first class of Swing Dancing and more .

When I had first met up with them, I remember them huddled in chairs, quite apprehensive and some of them unsure about their ability to learn dancing . But today they have a spring in their step , glint in their eyes and a smile on their lips as they Swing and Cha Cha to their hearts content . And guess what… they love to dance the Merengue and Bachata too and are waiting to learn some more.So happy to have had the opportunity to make a difference in their lives.

The first time I met them they were a group with lots of concerns. They heard me patiently and asked a lot of questions , ranging from whether they would be able to learn at all as most of them were well over sixties and seventies or so .They also mentioned that though they have danced earlier in their lives, they don’t remember much. Some said they know all there is to know, a few others brought out their health issues which were bothering them so much that they cant possibly exercise let alone dance, some questioned what is the point of learning to dance …

Well to be frank I had an interesting and enjoyable time clearing their doubts and addressing their concerns . I knew most of their concerns were common to most people at their age in India.I spoke to them addressing each of their concerns and finally mentioning instances of my own intention of wanting to work with a group of Seniors.

The initially reluctant let their defenses down and an interactive session followed, where I got some understanding of them and they of me . It was one of those fulfilling days a wonderful memory now which I hold close to my heart .Though at the end all they said was that they will get back to me in some time…. somehow as I drove back home that evening I knew in my heart we were all certainly going to meet again in time .

Today as I write this its been six months and more.Dancing together they say they have realized the values of the human connection and the strength of community . They mention to me how they eagerly wait for their dance workshops .They speak of how dance steps into their lives , in moments of loneliness and makes them positive and alive again. They know dancing now is so much more about valuing that equal partnership between the leader and the follower and that the bonds of the dance floor leaves lasting and empowering impressions in their hearts and lives .

This experience as well as many similar incidents has left me even more confident about my beliefs …C ultivate Patience. Dream selflessly. Positive things are waiting to unfold if only we continue to dream our unique dream and believe in it ! All you need is the strength of intention and the dreams realizes itself , just trust in the process! Do what you do with all your heart ! Like minded people will arrive somehow and help you actualize it !

In this endeavor I take this opportunity to express my deep sense of appreciation to some of my dear students who assisted me at the workshops who took time out to be with me at these sessions and I know they shared with me equally the joys of making a positive difference in people’s lives.

Life is how you live it. (Part2)

Infinite moments are meant to happen
Every moment is not the same
There is much within you
That can turn the way this moment feels

Sometimes life can be challenging
Making every moment difficult
There can be pain, agony that seem endless
Or every moment may seem like a chore

Yet whatever the times that must pass us by
How we feel deep within is
in how we learn to take the moment .
In happiness and sorrow, in joy and pain.

Allow the moment to manifest itself
As it is meant to
Don’t fight it, for as it comes it shall go
Remember nothing lasts forever.

In the river of time these moments slip on
In the passage of time
And so gear up to experience a brand new moment .
For every moment is a fresh start.

See every moment in goodwill of hope
Awaken to the present moment
For thats what truly matters
Life is how you live it.

A humble request

Please do care to share this further

If it will help spread awareness

So be it .

Of the fragility of our life snd living

Life on earth is a precarious balance

We are taking our world for granted

Much gets lost in natural calamities

Like draught famine flooding , quakes

Not to mention in conflicts & wars.

Our world is suffocating in all kinds

Of man made pollution and toxicity

We ought to save what we have left.

Global warming is a threat to all life.

We need to spread awareness

Educate ourselves in sustainability

Each of us have the equal responsibility

For we are first citizens of the world.

Please care and share

SOUL CAGES

Titled: Unshackled…An Artwork By Savvy Raj

Born free we truly are, but we learn to evolve, to move beyond the soul cages of our own being!

When we learn to appreciate the freedom that is ours for the taking, we realise its value in deep gratitude!

‘Do not do this…Do not do that …’ often these are the words which are entrenched in our brains in the name of effective and good rearing.
We are told for goodness sake to avoid disappointments at all cost and to stay away from failure. Often our programming is tracked for success without a doubt. Superb indeed! A mindful way of being, which acknowledges the good and disregards the bad.
Great, then where is the issue? There should be none at all! However, the reverse is the case… and often as well!

For example… a child very lovingly brought up has to experience and grow in a world of dualities. There are all kinds of people that make up this world and varied experiences to be had in this journey of life. Preparation of exigencies is thus a necessity after all.

Acceptance and Adaptability

This is the key that we mould from within, as we evolve towards unlocking the secrets of a successful life.

    • Dealing with what must be dealt
    • Bending in the flow where it is necessary
    • Standing up for something or someone you care in support
  • Steering through the crisis that shows up without notice

All these takes nerves of steel and resilience of composure in calamity. And never forget that smile from the heart and all of your being.

As life is like that … a taste of bitter and sweet all spiced with the nicest surprises yet tinged with necessary learnings along the way.

Freedom is being who you are

Everything alive has a right to be, all that they manifest with the uniqueness of their thoughts. There is always room for expansion while accepting another as they choose to be.

Self-imposed restrictions may be a discipline necessary for one to learn, while for another it will stifle them if forced in even small measures. Caged by its own thoughts… the soul of the being needs to set itself free from limiting self-reflections to a spectrum of colours beyond!

    • Break free from Soul cages of convictions that hold you in chains of restrictions And evolve with your resurrection.
    • Remember the world is free, as free as you want it to be. Just take care that along the way, another’s joy you do not steal.
    • In the acceptance of the free-spiritedness of another being, there is the unshackled lightness of your own being!

Remember you are born free…

To be all that you choose to be!

Shades of Milk.

What are your immediate thoughts

On the above picture?

I am not a milk consumer, but at home, everyone loves plenty of yoghurts to go along with food. In fact, it is considered to be appropriate for digestion, and as Indians, we often tend to finish the meal with some buttermilk.

For the past few weeks the milk we would curdle to make homemade yoghurt became increasingly slimy, to say the least. The brand I was buying is one of India’s biggest and well known. I have often read about adulterated milk and it’s implications on health and wellbeing but somehow never got down to testing the milk itself.

Recently I came across a Milk testing kit and I decided to check it out myself. It is easily available once I began to check out for it … I truly wonder why I didn’t ever think of doing this ever before.

Although there are just too many milk adulterations in the market today … this particular kit listed the few rampant ones.

Found the kit very user-friendly and it was having four parameters to check the milk on for example.

On the Milk Quality

On the Urea Content

On the Starch Content

On the Soap/ Detergent Content

As suggested the vials were duly filled with the milk and in just a matter of minutes the truth was staring at us!

Here is what the colours indicate.

Blue …. poor quality /no milk content

Sediments urea

Yellow …. starch

Yellow …. pulverised soap

So it was nothing but a concoction of chemicals.

In leaving the milk in the vials for a while after the results came through… at the time of cleaning the kits I was aghast to find that the strip in urea check container was truly stripped out… in fact, there were only a few bits of the strip left it was eaten away literally ….uric acid perhaps!

Wonder what’s happening to our insides!!!

Essentially it was no surprise that what we were consuming was not milk at all.

We have stopped buying milk from this vendor. But as I also read recently almost 65% and more of Indian milk consumption is adulterated.

Here is a video that I received as a forward on Social media. Take a moment although I must add the clip is recorded in Hindi it speaks for itself.

This is just one of the sad reality of our times.

Knowing that a majority of Indians have grown up with the belief that milk is good for health…

What are we actually feeding children?

Who is going to punish the culprits?

Do share if you have had a similar experience…

I would be keen to understand how we can tackle and overcome the rampant milk and food adulteration.
