Work from home

Should the Corporates Invade our Homes…?

A youngster was attending a video conference with his Manager who was upset over the background noises. The Youngster turned around and told his grandmother to keep quiet.

She walked towards the youngster, to take a look into what he was doing and saw a person on the Monitor and asked, “Who is he?”

The youngster muted his audio and video and said, “He is my Manager”.

She said, “I want to talk to your Manager”. But the youngster denied. By the time the Manager started pinging the youngster and the youngster unmuted to talk and his grandmother shouted, “Manager I want to talk to you”.

The Manager agreed and the youngster unmuted the video. The grandmother, with a smile said, “Namaste” and introduced herself and the Manager also greeted her.

She said, “You look upset”.

The Manager said, “Yeah, some kind of work tension, a lot of noise around your house and we are not able to complete the meeting in time”.

The Grand Mother asked, “May I help solve your problem?”

Her grandson was stopping her and telling her to keep quiet.

The Manager said, “It’s ok, let her speak”.

The Grandmother narrated, “Once there was a Young man, who sat under a tree for taking rest. He was continuously hearing a bird’s sound. He lifted his head and seeing a bird, started chasing it, so that he could peacefully take some rest. The bird came closer to him and said, “You are taking rest under my nest. I will not ask you to leave this place but you should learn to co-exist with us”.

The Grandmother looked at both of them and said, “Your Home is your nest” where you are supposed to take rest and bond with your dear and near ones. I do understand the Covid-19 situation, but you should also understand that our home is not your office.

*When we come to visit our family members at your office place, we are expected to behave professionally or maintain a certain decorum.*

Similarly, when you are using our home for your office work, you should understand the situation at our home.

There is nothing wrong with working from home, but remember, it is the family members benevolent nature, that is keeping the corporate world functioning today and the economy running.

She looked at the manager and asked, “Am I correct ?”

*The Manager’s mother peeped and said “You are absolutely right”.*

Words of wisdom

The teacher who is indeed wise does not bid you to enter the house of his wisdom but rather leads you to the threshold of your mind.

The astronomer may speak to you of his understanding of space, but he cannot give you his understanding.

The musician may sing to you of the rhythm which is in all space, but he cannot give you the ear which arrests the rhythm nor the voice that echoes it.

And he who is versed in the science of numbers can tell of the regions of weight and measure, but he cannot conduct you thither.

For the vision of one man lends not its wings to another man. And even as each one of you stands alone in God’s knowledge, so must each one of you be alone in his knowledge of God and in his understanding of the earth.

Kahlil Gibran…

One of my favorite writers with profound words of wisdom.

I had been introduced to his books as a teenager but have revisited his works especially ‘ The Prophet ‘ many times just to soak in the learnings.

Learning is best done in willingness & curiosity to explore the beyond.

Teaching is best done in understanding the learnings and the learner.

Learning never stops it is like a river that flows…

The teacher creates curiosity for learning takes you to the river banks of knowledge and then allows you to quench your thirst, assimilate the learning to expand your horizons of learning.

Finding the good…

These are certainly abilities worth cultivating :))

Ability to see the good is a great habit to cultivate

Ability to respect the people for who they are.

Ability to work with diversity of thoughts

Ability to coexist in peace and harmony.

Ability to generate goodwill whenever we can.

Ability to make light of things

Ability to dance in the rain

As much as in the lightness of being.

For the love of books

A book bound or otherwise

Is a treasure to an ardent reader

Who knows the emotions sensed,

In the company of a good book

Of times, well spent in the joy of reflections.

Reading is a beautiful voyage of discovery… of new learning and associations in assimilation.

Books, that transport us back and forth in time in a moment.

Books, that beckon us to a world of imagination.

Books, that create the magic of words

Books, that speak of truths and illusions

Books, that contain stories of life & living

Have you a favorite book that comes to mind immediately?

Cultivate space…

As we cultivate a space

Within and around us

To listen and observe

To understand and care.

We access the underlying wisdom

As we allow ourselves to notice

The ways of life and living

We come across fresh perspectives

When we allow ourselves to hear

The sounds of silence

We sense our feelings

We accept our emotions

And likewise..

We tune inwards a little more

In this conscious awareness

We practice…

To tap into our intuitive intelligence

In every cell of our being

Speaking through our senses.

To access the powers within.

All we need is to cultivate space.

Every once in a while.”

On Team Management

Team Management

Today the world is expanding rapidly on many fronts with shrinking communication time and reachability across the world… and the fact is, organizations are confronted with a multigenerational workplace.

Values and beliefs that was so far held by the world are finding new definitions and for many its difficult to catch up with the changing trends. New words of communication are coined every day and the different generations suddenly find themselves alien to each other.

For organizations to acclimatize to a changing world, the old patterns of thoughts and mindsets need fresh perspective…

Time and again a revision of what’s redundant or what cannot work in a fast moving world needs identification but with discernment as there is much wisdom garnered in the experiences of life and living.

Here are 6 A’s worth imbibing in work places to sustain teams and evolve for the better.

1. Accept

Accept there is a place for every one… be inclusive of the diversity… Accept that the differences are what is unique to the person and teams need people with diverse intelligence to take it to the next level. Every stage comes along with some learnings.

2. Acknowledge

Acknowledge the value of interdependence at work strengthening a culture of inclusiveness. Importance of co-operation in collaborative work cannot be stressed enough.

3. Allow

Allow the expression of new ideas, suggestions and let it find listening ears no matter which team or who it comes from.

4.Appreciate

Appreciate and celebrate the work done, even the little wins help to motivate the team. Appreciation is an evolved method of correction.

5. Align

Align the set of achievable goals of teams with the mission & vision of the organization. More the alignment the faster and easier the channelling of communication by maintaining open communication greater the chance of successful endeavors.

6. Accountable

Accountability is being accountable about to being able take responsibility at all times and own it.

As a Consultant with a deep interest in Wellness, at work this is what I help facilitate day in and out especially so, in these uncertain times.

From applications of art and movements to creating space for dialogues to understand shifting mindsets & perspectives I have been mentoring diverse teams at work places.

Every team afterall, is made of unique individuals but the issues faced as a team are often similar. As a result of interaction & the scope of work different patterns of team dynamics are created.

If you have been responsible to manage teams to collaborate effectively….

Do share what kind of challenges have cropped up in your teams and how have you managed them.

Would love to understand more.

Heart of Art

Consciously or otherwise,

whether it is…
In Steering the words that flow, toward a larger purpose.
In Channelling the ideas that spring forth
In Creating artworks with a splattering of colours

Art draws expressions from wonder
Art thrives in the heart of the being.
Art flows through in movement & solitude…

When the he(art) speaks, the artist listens
For Art is life and living an art.

Spill Art

Very interesting perspectives…

Spill creates Art

I wonder what makes the mind want to take a spill to art.
What evokes the heart to charge the creator with imagination and energy…
To be able to create such artful associations.

Some learnings from a Spill
To turnover a spill to evolve for better

If a child has spilled a cup of milk accidentally….
To keep calm and address the lesson in the spill like carefulness, steadiness, patience, thoroughness, cleanliness and most of all mindfulness.

What’s is spilled, is spilled already…. what matters is what we do about it.

Savvy

As a child when my daughter dropped a glass of water, spilled milk on the floor accidentally, without getting angry admonishing, I have used it as moments to convey such lessons… so much so that it made her understand the value being in the moment while doing anything.

Great lessons can be taught in such moments and vulnerability can become a strength in time.

Similarly one can intend

To create hope in a spill…
To sense a pattern of possibilities in a spill

To use a spillover to change mindsets
To challenge the statuesque through a spill.

To evoke creativity and art…
To test skillsets learned from a spill

To create art in revisiting patterns & perspective
To spill some more and align the pattern formations.

To move beyond the evident spillover…
To envision hope beyond the accidental spill

To accentuate the spill artfully
To create masterpieces from the potential in a spillover…

To understand there is always a reason why and the learnings to come.
To empathize with the spillings across the learning curve

So the very act of overflow or spill
Or a cup that runneth over
Can be a turning point in itself
With the many lessons to learn.
The choice rests with us.
