A young couple went to live in a new place. Next day morning sipping tea they were looking out of the window. Their neighbour was drying clothes on the clothline. She doesn’t know to wash clothes properly. Look at the dirt on thair clothes. The wife said. Without replying the husband was looking. This became a daily routine. Their time coincided n everyday the wife will comment about the dirt in their clothes while the husband was listening silently. Suddenly one day the wife said atlast today the clothes are clean. She has learnt to wash well. Quietly the husband replied ,. ‘ I cleaned our window glasses today morning. ‘
This is what happening in today’s lifestyle. Our uncleaned glasses make other’s things look dirty. But we never suspect our glasses.
Whether or not, there is some flaw with another we are ready to comment instead of finding the reason behind it.
Life with all its complexities and contrasts creates a necessity to chalk out ways to make young impressionable minds better equipped to handle its exigencies. Holistic education is so much about grounding in connectedness as much as it is about intuitive understanding that, harmony in the mind body connection is a way of life and living.
An education in empathic behavior becomes paramount in a materialistic world. A lot of misconception about empathy needs clarification.
Empathy is seeing with another, listening to another acknowledging them as they are, in a nonjudgmental space and being with another sensing the feelings and caring to reach out with support through words action and deeds …
Empathy can be sensed in a touch a nod or a smile or in the simplicity of silence, doing nothing but just being there ….
Empathy is a sharing, a feeling, a bonding, a being, a seeing, a sensing, a trusting and believing in hope, in faith, in life and grace.
Empathy is about caring, as a way of being. Empathy is not always about bearing the suffering and sensing another’s pain or being in a state of sorrow or pain. There can arise great empathy when dancing together or in a classroom environment where the teacher feels one with the student’s frame of mind and speaks to address that … or hearing or performing a song or play together with unbridled sense of bonding and enthusiasm. This empathy can be reflected time and time again in striving to consciously stay aware of the mutually creative fulfillment it brings to our lives. Positive benefits of empathy can become a mirror to gradually inducing greater empathic behavior in our lives towards ourselves and others.
Our movements have the power to change our moods, as much as our thoughts can bring a change in our way of being. It doesn’t matter who believes in your empathic way of life, what matters is you believe in it yourself. And that is the first step in making a positive difference. When there is an empathy in action, it is mirrored in our minds to create, generate loving and caring thoughts as a response to the action.
Every empathic thought finds its way into expression thoughts words or deeds creatively. With increasing empathic thought and action there is unknowingly a connectedness, valuing the interdependence in this web of life and living as a way of being.
Whenever I come across a heart touching action, or a prose ,a poem or quote I will be sharing it here in this series…
Some people make the world a better place by their thoughts words and deeds...
Sharing a touching story of truths of life and living…
THE HAPPIEST MAN
When Billionaire Femi Otedola in a telephone interview, was asked by the radio presenter, “Sir what can you remember made you the happiest man in life?”
Femi said: “I have gone through four stages of happiness in life and finally I understood the meaning of true happiness.”
The first stage was to accumulate wealth and means. But at this stage I did not get the happiness I wanted.
Then came the second stage of collecting valuables and items. But I realized that the effect of this thing is also temporary and the lustre of valuable things does not last long.
Then came the third stage of getting big projects. That was when I was holding 95% of diesel supply in Nigeria and Africa. I was also the largest vessel owner in Africa and Asia. But even here I did not get the happiness I had imagined.
The fourth stage was the time a friend of mine asked me to buy wheelchair for some disabled children. Just about 200 kids.
At the friend’s request, I immediately bought the wheelchairs. But the friend insisted that I go with him and hand over the wheelchairs to the children. I got ready and went with him.
There I gave these wheel chairs to these children with my own hands. I saw the strange glow of happiness on the faces of these children. I saw them all sitting on the wheelchairs, moving around and having fun.
It was as if they had arrived at a picnic spot where they are sharing a jackpot wining.
I felt real joy inside me. When I decided to leave one of the kids grabbed my legs. I tried to free my legs gently but the child stared at my face and held my legs tightly. I bent down and asked the child: Do you need something else?
The answer this child gave me not only made me happy but also changed my attitude to life completely. This child said: “I want to remember your face so that when I meet you in heaven, I will be able to recognize you and thank you once again”.
What would you be remembered for after you leave that office or place?
Will anyone desire to see your face again where it all matters?
Think! Live your life in a manner that others desire to see your face again.
