This year I celebrate my five years of being and serving as a Member of International Dance Council UNESCO
Sharing a note I wrote 5 years ago…
Have to certainly add that back in the 1960’s it was a visiting delegation from UN that had come to India who had got my dear father interested in learning these International Dances and later on teaching these dances as a hobby and now after all these years as his daughter, to have been certified by CID UNESCO I am touched indeed to say the least.
Thank you Dad for sharing with me this Magic of Dance. I am truly grateful that our simple dream of sharing the joy of Dancing by not only training people to dance but also specialising in applications of dance in holistic wellbeing through Dance Concepts, has been nominated to join UNESCO CID.
It surely connects the dots into a beautiful circle.
The prospect of working under the guidance of this phenomenal institution gives one unbelievable new strengths.
Learning to dance is indeed a ‘labour of love’ and I cherish every moment. How privileged we are to share this indescribable ‘magic of dance.’
Hoping to take the art of Dance to empower more and more people to sense and love the beauty of every movement in the moments called Life.

A good dancer invites you on a journey
You choose to flow along if you wish
Never in compulsion but in emulsion
Of the spirit of the moves
In unison from the heart of the art
In emulation of the joy of the dance
That frees you into acknowledging
The rhythm within so divine.
Listening to the melody in reverance
Tuning to the beat of the distant drums
Movements in momentous vibrance
Then all is harmony in the symphony.

As a Ballroom & Latin dance educator, many students have asked me what my favourite dance style is…
It is said that each style is like a language. Personally, I also think of different dance styles as having a “mood” that goes with them. I guess it’s not surprising that I do like lots of “happy” or “joyous” styles of dance. But I really do like the variety of dances for the variety of moods and it’s amazing ability in bringing a sense of balance. If I was stuck to dancing in one style, I would probably get bored after a while (I know that sounds strange). But it’s one of the reasons I really like dancing a variety of dances.
The Tango (for its intensity and passion at play as much as its fancy footwork)
And dancing the Waltz (for the heady glide, the rise and fall and its romantic sway).
Love the Rumba for it certainly is the dance of love… the song Everyday I love you, immediately comes to mind. But this performance by Slavik and Karina is quite riveting.
Happen to like the Cha cha for its stylish moves as much as its teasing spirit …that kind of speaks, this is my move … now, what’s yours?
I love the Jive for its lively spirit. You can truly never be sad after a little Jive/ Swing and Rock and roll. What say? At least it has always been a happy dance for me.
Really fond of it as much as the Samba for its lively bounce, so full of joyfulness.
Then of course comes the Foxtrot that feels like a wonderful conversation a dialogue between the steps
I also like the Merengue with its simple marching steps and executing many inter-looping turns almost feeling like a pretzel.
And how can I leave the Bachata for its engaging sensuality as those dancing hips don’t lie, they say it all and much much more…
Dances are so many and styling makes it even more unique.
In fact, I enjoy all these dances and more for their unique expressions – just one style would get boring.
The trick is to flow with the music and your partner whatever the dance and partake in the pleasure of dancing together in the now.
To actually be able to enjoy dancing to the varied music styles that would be a real treat. All the more reasons to learn and train in more than just one dance style :))
Do share your thoughts on dance and if you love to dance, what your favourite style of dance is…
I would be glad to learn and read more.

Witnessing the world as my stage
I dance my part in this game of life…
I breathe
Witness to the dance of my breath
In every breath inhaled, a gratitude of the receiving.
In every aware moment of pauses between the inhale and exhale
Invoking the divinity in the connectedness
Between the silence of sounds and soundlessness.
Every gesture a conscious acknowledgement of this dance of the breath.
The gaps in the journey as pauses in the silence know its purpose of being.
Spaced out in rhythm divine all a part to greater awakenings in every moment of time.
I watch the world disappear
To sense the world fleeting by, just care to waltz
To embrace the souls longing to move and flow along in graceful time… just dance…
To sense the subtlety of change in every dance of your breath.
To dance is to witness the ebb and flow of the tides of life and pass it on.
To dance is to feel fulfilment and contentment in nothingness all in one breath.
To dance is to enjoy the being as much as accept its fleeting nature.
I release my feelings
Feelings come and go and change is the only constant.
In the strength of release of feelings exists the freedom to transcend beyond and acknowledge the life in our being.
To release the feelings and not succumb to it is an art of living well.
To unlock the self from the prison of thoughts.
To be not a slave to feelings but learn to master it, to let it flow its course naturally.
I lead with my heart
Dancing from the heart,
Being grateful for the conscious awareness of the divinity of motion.
To move from the heart in all that one endeavours.
Breathing in the intention of the eternal awareness
towards collective consciousness of oneness is what leading and sensing grace is all about.
I tear down my walls …
Dance has taught me to liberate myself from the confines of limited existence.
From learning to move in space through the art of dance
In releasing and revelling, while sensing the freedom of space within and around me.
I stop feeling sad
Yes indeed! Although I personally make it a point to balance my emotions before conducting any workshop or working on dance in any way, be it writing about it or sharing my skills or dancing any form… yet there have been circumstances beyond which have been helped by simply dancing it out.
I lose the pain
The happy hormones released in the body has a lot to do to manage the release of pain and by changing our body’s perception and response to all kinds of existing pain.
To dance is to acknowledge the letting go…
Of pain and allow joy in great measures. Often a dull headache nagging back pain or even a tightness in the body improves and disappears after dance class and we are left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
I let go I smile
I remember instances of students coming into the dance class forgetting a smile and walking out wearing it so beautifully.
Guess to smile from the heart one needs to just dance and let go.😊
I don’t just dance I do so much more …
Indeed!
Whatever I choose to do, the way of dance is pure bliss of a bless in my path guiding and shining the light for me.
I hope to always choose to dance with life with all of me, grateful for its gifted presence in every moment of now.
