To you my readers

Every day I write
It’s been so for more than six years now
I don’t plan on what to write
I just  put the words as they  come
But somehow from somewhere
From deep within they flow
Through me…
And then one look  at what I wrote
I get the title immediately
Many times  the title comes first
And I begin to write

And then I just happen to share with  you all my readers
Some of you engage with me all most daily

And I am so full of Gratitude for your presence here.

Thankful for your  likes and comments
You readers  really make my day
Especially when you leave a kind & thoughtful word.
It’s truly special  to see an old reader drop by chance and connect again
It’s a  wonderful feeling…
When at the fag end of the day
I sit to read your thoughts
It makes me motivated to want to write some more.

Words are all I have
To share with you
I hope to share the best of them & I hope to read and learn from yours…
And hope to stay connected
With you  in times to come
For I believe to share is to learn some more…

Thank you for the love you share here.

Reflecting reflections

Are we in the reflections or or are we the reflection itself?

What do you think?

Is all an illusion in the reflection?

Joy of Dance

At the 49th World Dance Congress UNESCO Mumbai. 2018. My lecture presentation on The Relevance of Dance Education in Communities to a distinguished world audience from the field of Dance and Dance Research.

I spoke about how learning to dance brought out massive changes in marginalised communities, senior citizens and also recited in a poem format, my learnings while teaching dance to Visually impaired school children.

There is so much power to movement to encourage, to give hope, and empower a life to sense the possibilities in their potential beyond situations and circumstances.

This image came up as a great reminder of that beautiful day five years ago.

At the heart of it all is the love I have to share the joy of dance movements. I have had some amazing experiences along the way over the last two decades of being a dance educator. I have enjoyed every bit of it. The learnings and the sharings.

Suffice to say that after all these years though I have moved to doing many more things along with my writings, the simple joy of dance will always keep me happy at heart.

The Dancer

Sharing one of my favorites

THE DANCER

An Excerpt From The Wanderer by Khalil Gibran,

Once there came to the court of the Prince of Birkasha a dancer and her musicians. And she was admitted to the court. And she danced to the music of the flute, the lute, and the zither.
She danced the dance of flames and fire, and the dance of swords and spears; she danced the dance of stars and the dance of space, and then she danced the dance of flowers in the wind.

When she had finished, she approached the prince and bowed her body before him. The price bade her to come nearer, and said unto her, “Beautiful woman, daughter of grace and delight, whence comes your art? And how is it that you command all the elements in your rhythms and your rhymes?”

And the dancer came near and bowed her body again and said, “Gracious majesty, I know not the answer to your questionings. Only this I know: The philosopher soul dwells within his head, the poets soul dwells within his heart, the singers soul dwells about his throat, but the soul of the dancer abides in all her body.

On Spirituality

You can’t talk Spirituality
You got to live it.
Often when life takes you far
Far away from it…

You got to know
The divine that you seek
Is with you in every moment
Your actions thoughts and words
Decides the distance between
You and your spiritual self.

A tree house

Many people imagine a tree house…

A house on a tree?
Sure that would be an experience
But the way of life
Is if you are living on a tree
Make sure that within you
You plant the tree of Gratitude
For life is a circle
Circle in with a grateful heart.

A world of difference

A thought in kindness
A word of kindness
A deed in kindness
Count up much more
Than you realise
Imagine the wealth of joy
You will have created
In a lifetime.

Leaving imprints of kindness

In thoughts words and deeds

Makes a world of difference

On Equanimity

The wisdom born of balance…

Being able to see the true essence

Of living life in the middlepath

Knowing the power of being gentle

Just as much as of toughness

In every circumstance.

Discerning when to be what

And with whom is the key

To successful life management.

Developing the discipline

In mind body & spirit

Calls for equanimity of not tilting

To the extremes of behavior

In thoughts words deeds.

What is your take on equanimity?

Chosen

Trust, that you are Chosen

To take a step towards change

To be the peaceful warrior

Who can brave new frontiers

With acts of kindness

And words of positivity

In goodwill do deeds for humanity

Bringing forth the best you can

And you truly can

Then every day feels meaningful

And with every now purposeful

You begin to understand

Who you truly are.

On Gratitude

Cultivation of Gratitude

Gratitude brings forth

A shift in perspective

In feeling thankfulness

In sensing appreciation

In seeing the glass half full

Than half empty

In seeing the sunny side

Of things than as cloudy

For the way of seeing

Is a choice in our hands.

Internal effects of Gratefulness

An increase in dopomine

Sense of satisfaction

A boost in sertonin

Feeling of positivity

Count your blessings

Gratitude makes us recognize and value things we already have even more. That is how it brings a sense of abundance.

Every day a practice of gratitude could include a variety of things that may feel right to you. From seeing the positives in a situation or in people, focusing on the good in life journaling regularly and being thankful, etc

A practice of living life with a positive attitude makes life more meaningful.

Give gratitude freely without holding back.

Thank you dear reader, Truly grateful for your time. Pls consider sharing this message of giving gratitude in this now.

Way of water

Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and nothing in the end can stand against it. Water is patient. Dripping water wears away a stone. Remember that, my child. Remember you are half water. If you can’t go through an obstacle, go around it. Water does. ~Margaret Atwood

Loved reading this quote share on water. Being able to imbibe the nature of water speaks much of the person you are.

To be like water as Bruce Lee famously suggested, calls for flexibility, adaptability, persistence and most importantly humility.

Water is soft yet powerful in its ways. Overcoming rigidity with gentleness of yielding in the flow.

To be able to take on the mightiest rocks of resistance with the power of persistence in the flow.

And yet be able to take shape and mold along the vagaries of existence.

Water never competes for it is secure and complete in itself.

Giving in the flowing through Strengthened in the harmony of the very flow.

Water is what water does. Such is the way of water.

On Strength of a Woman

Nowadays, I am finding there are lot of films produced on women empowerment in different languages. Perhaps this is what the public wants to watch. What is interesting to note is how well it resonates with our times.

I enjoy watching films that make you think and feel as much as I enjoy happy fun films

I just finished watching a new Hindi movie called Sukhee. It’s about a daring woman (Shilpa Shetty) who elopes and gets married to a man of her choice in her college days. In time she becomes a homemaker. But her husband over the years stops valuing her. She toils everyday at home but her daughter stops needing her. Her only desire is to go meet her friends and attend her school reunion after 20 years. But her husband does not want her to go.

Nevertheless she leaves them and goes to meet her school friends. She realises how much she has missed her old life and wants to stay back some more… But her husband gives her an ultimatum to come back now or never come back…

What decision she takes forms the rest of the story…

On Strength of Empowerment

We talk of strength and there are many strengths in the challenges
Of Courage
Of Resilience
Of Tolerance
Of Patience

Speaking of women, I want you to answer this following question.

Who is a strong empowered woman?
The one who has the courage to get up and leave when she knows she is simply being used but not wanted?
Or the one who stays and dares to change the equation?

I look forward to your answers

The Divine You

Art by Savvy Raj

There is a dance of divinity in every cell of life.

There is the interconnectedness of life in every being.

Be conscious of the universe in you.
As well as in others
Be empathic be humane
Sense answers within
Find  the light within
Feel the abundance of Love
Sense the divinity in you

Sense Peace
Work inwards
Evolve from within.

Whispers of Wisdom

Mother Nature’s
Whispers of wisdom
Is in and all around us.

Just care to look around.
Just have little time to listen.

The drizzling rain ,
The gentle breeze,
The spreading fragrance of blooming flowers. Soothing all those around.
No discrimination.
No differentiation.

The mountains touching the clouds,
The trees that stand tall and high,
All whispers
That transcience is eternal here.
Spring and autumn are just cycles .
Be in equanimity
In highs and lows.

The sun, the moon, the mighty ocean,
All the elements of nature
Just whisper
Discipline, punctuality,
Valuing boundaries in spite of immense power,

The bearing trees,
The green fields.
The flowing rivers
The very earth we stand upon,
All whispers
Humility,
Generosity,
Patience,
Selflessness,
Nourishing,
Nurturing.

The lessons are many.
How many we carry?

For eons are these
Timeless whispers.
When will we have the time and patience
To listen and learn.
To practice and bow down.

A poem by my mother Anjana
