On Richness

How do you know
you are rich?

Amazing answer
by an IIT student.

When I was doing my
B. E. there was a Professor who used to teach us ‘Mechanics’.

His lectures used to be very interesting since he had an interesting way to teach and explain
the concepts.

One day, in the class, he asked the following questions:

1. What is ZERO?
2. What is INFINITY?
3. Can ZERO and INFINITY be same?

We all thought that we knew the answers and we replied as following:

ZERO means nothing.
INFINITY means
a number greater than any countable number.

ZERO and INFINITY are opposite and they can never be same.

He countered us by first talking about infinity and asked, How can there be any number which is greater than any countable number?

We had no answers.

He then explained the concept of infinity in a very interesting way, which I remember even after more than 50 years.

He said that imagine that there is an illiterate shepherd who can count only
upto 20.

Now, if the number of sheep he has less than 20 and you ask him how many sheep he has, he can tell you the precise number (like 3, 5 14 etc.).

However, if the number is more than 20, he is likely to say “TOO MANY”.

He then explained that in science infinity means ‘too many’ (and not uncountable) and in the same way zero means ‘too few’ (and not nothing).

As an example, he said that if we take the diameter of the Earth as compared to distance between Earth and Sun, the diameter of earth can be said to be zero since it is too small.

However, when we compare the same diameter of earth with the size of a grain, diameter of earth can be said to be infinite.

Hence, he concluded that the same thing can be ZERO and INFINITE at the same time, depending on the context, or your matrix of comparison.

The relationship between richness and poverty is similar to the relationship between infinity
and zero

It all depends on the scale of comparison with your wants.

If your income is more than your wants,
you are rich.
If your wants are more than your income,
you are poor.

I consider myself rich because my wants are far less than my income.

I have become rich not so much by acquiring lots of money, but BY PROGRESSIVELY REDUCING MY WANTS.

If you can reduce your wants, you too can BECOME RICH at this very moment.

This interesting forward came my way today and I wanted to share this with a few musings on the same lines…

Being rich is living life exploring and discovering all your possibilities of your potential

Being rich is being able to realize the potential of you.

Being rich is being ready to sense the abundance that is.

Money is not necessarily the only factor for your worth.

You are rich in knowing your worth.

Be enriched in health wealth & prosperity but most of all be rich in the heart and mind.

In realization of the contentment of what you have, you are truly rich!

Flames afire

Sharing a beautiful message with you…

A man, who regularly attended family & group meetings suddenly, without any notice, stopped participating.
After a few weeks, one very cold night the leader of that group decided to visit him.

He found the man at home, alone, sitting in front of a fireplace where a bright fire burned.

The man welcomed the leader. There was great calm & silence.

The two men only watched the dancing flames around the logs that crackled in the fireplace.

After a few minutes the leader, without saying a word, examined the logs that formed the fire and selected one of them, glowing most brightly of all, and removed it to the side with a pair of tongs. Then he sat down again.

The host was paying attention to everything, fascinated. Before long, the lone log’s flame subsided, until there was only a momentary glow and the fire soon went out.
In a short time what was previously bright light and heat had become nothing more than a black dead piece of wood.
Very few words had been spoken since the greeting.

Before preparing to leave, the leader picked up the useless piece of wood with the tongs and placed it again in the middle of the fire. Immediately, the piece of wood was rekindled, fuelled by the light and heat of the burning logs around it.

When the leader was about to leave & had reached the door, the host said: ‘Thank you for your visit and for your beautiful lesson. I’ll return to the group soon.’

Why is a group important in our lives ?

Very simple:
Because each member that withdraws takes fire and heat from the rest.

It’s worth reminding group members that they are a part of the flame.

It’s also good to remind us that we are all responsible for keeping each other’s flame burning.
And we must promote the union among us so that the fire is really strong, effective and lasting. Keep the fire burning.

THE GROUP IS ALSO A FAMILY
It doesn’t matter if sometimes we are bothered by so many messages, quarrels and misunderstandings.

What matters is to be connected. We are here to meet, message, learn, exchange ideas or simply to know that we are not alone

Let’s keep the flame alive.

Life is beautiful with friends and family.

Fractality of creativity

If we were to only reach deeper
Than we know see or believe
Is the truth and begin to accept
And acknowledge the yet unknown
The unfamiliar & the unexplored

Structured to the unstructured
The understandable to the inexplicable
Sensations in our emotions.
All vying for our attention
Or even the patterns manifesting itself…

In space continuum
We are opening ourselves
To the spectre of multi dimensions
Possibilities are infinite
Fractality of creativity.
